Saint James Vespers - Malcolm Bothwell, scripsit & Marcel Pérès, edixit.
This volume contains the Offices of the first Vespers, Lauds and the second Vespers of Saint James recorded in the Codex Calixtinus - the reference book of the pilgrimage and cult of the Apostle - written in Vezelay in the early XIIe century and presented to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
The aim of the Scriptorim collection is to provide musicians with a direct access to the musical and psychological parameters signified by the original notation. That is why the Scriptorium collection presents a scrupulous calligraphic reproduction of the original written forms. The only change lies in the layout, better spaced and therefore easier to read for contemporary eyes. In this way the interpreter can admire the intricacies of the signs, imagined more than a thousand years ago to transmit the energy which, through the medium of voice, is expressed in structures of sound.
