A unique source for the history and technique of an instrument which, like other pastoral instruments, enjoyed a considerable vogue in the 17th and 18th centuries. It contains examples notably by the Chédeville and the Hotteterre, and several fine quality plates illustrating the instrument. It concludes with a series of branles and airs à chanter in tablature.
